July 17, 2018 will always be remembered as one of the toughest days of my life. The night before I rushed my 9 year old dog, Tucker, to the emergency room because he was having trouble breathing. He was diagnosed with fluid in his lungs due to cancer of both the liver and pancreas. The fluid had started to build up again by the next morning. And so, on 7/17/18, I knew that I loved him too much to see him suffer and knew that it was time to say goodbye. I was heartbroken. Life just wasn’t the same without my little buddy in it. A friend of mine had adopted a rescue dog theough Sweet Paws Rescue a few months before and stayed in touch with her foster mom in Alabama. A few weeks later my friend showed me a pic of one of the foster mom’s current foster dogs. I fell in love with this little girl with just one look. The good news for me was that she was on her way North and needed a home. I applied to adopt her and my application was accepted. On August 17, 2018 — a month to the day of saying goodbye to Tucker — I picked up Sophia. The date was a sign to me that Tucker was okay with Sophia coming into my life, and we have been the best of friends ever since that day. People often talk about rescuing dogs; in all honesty, Sophia rescued me. This beautiful, sweet little girl has stolen my heart and helped me heel. We found each other at a time when we both needed each other. She came straight off the streets and right into my heart!
